Friday evening I had a long day and late night at work. We finally finished and I prepared to leave. “What are you doing tonight?” someone asked me as I headed out the door. “I’m just hanging out at home,” I said. I didn’t have any plans.
I went to the ocean afterwards for a leisurely walk, filled my lungs with fresh air, then came home, took a shower, and put on my silk pajamas. I was not in the mood for dinner. I made a cup of chamomile tea with raw acacia honey. While sitting comfortably surrounded by cozy pillows, something made me pause and look around the room. I saw the tall bookcase filled with my favorite books. An arm chair near my window; a good place to read, and write in my journal. The photo of my mother, looking like a movie star. The scented candle that smelled like lavender. The souvenirs that I bought from abroad. A vase with fresh pink hydrangeas. The stress from the long week just melted away and was replaced with calm and quiet.
All I felt was peace and contentment staying home, surrounded by what makes me happy turned out to be a wonderful way to spend a Friday night. At the end of the day, a place like home brings me pleasure, comfort, and joy.
