The Food Journal

What is your diet like?  Does it taste good? Does it feel good?

My food journal was a starting point to express my nutrition, exercise, and personality. I wanted to learn more about my nature.  What I like and dislike, what brings me comfort and discomfort. When I realized that my precious health was truly important for me. I decided to take action into my hands and create radiant health by my own design. I had a strong desire to be an active part in my wellness journey. The process of keeping a food journal was fun, informative, and even soul-searching. The food journal was a powerful and interesting tool to help me explore food closely and make my eating style simple, delicious, and nutritious.

I got a red cover diary and kept a slow and steady approach to changes in my diet and lifestyle; not trying to do everything at once. First, I went through the kitchen cabinets and saw what I had, then I organized the food I had, making me ready to shop for the missing products. Second, I planned my meals and wrote my meals daily, paying attention to what I ate and how I felt physically and emotionally afterwards. I didn’t like wasting food and I took time selecting food wisely based on how it was nourishing, nurturing, and healing for  every cell in the body. Having small food portions with nutritional value and a wonderful taste.

I chose to eat a well-balanced diet which supplies fair amounts of protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Everything that my body needed to function well. Whole grains for breakfast (brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, millet ), sometimes eggs, smocked salmon, and avocado. My afternoon snacks include seeds, nuts, and fruit or a fruit smoothie. Lunch before 2pm is primarily a protein dish (fish or lean meat with lots of vegetables). 10am-2pm is an active time for digestion and our digestion works most efficiently at this time. It is healthy to eat most of your meals during this part of the day. Not only is what to eat important, but also when to eat it. When your digestion improves, your mood improves too. Digestion of a meat usually takes 5-6 hours, that is why I try to eat a bulk of food early in the day and go lighter on dinner. Dinner is at 6pm; a vegetable soup or a salad. Drinking herbal teas and  plenty of water throughout the day is pleasurable as well as freshly squeezed vegetable and citrus  juices. Most important, sugar or sugary things should be as few and far between as possible. This eating plan was great, it tasted delicious and worked well for me.

Gradually I discovered which food was for me. I listened closely to my body’s sighs and signals while trying different foods. For instance, if I got gas or heartburn after eating  a certain food, I knew right away the food was’t for me. Choosing healthy foods was the greatest investment that I could make in myself and my future health. My best supporters of a healthy and happy lifestyle which are water, sun, fresh air, herbs, balanced nutrition, exercise, pleasant conversations with friends, inspirational reading, good night sleep, relaxation, and positive mental attitude, all of which my food diary helps keep track of. I spoke to my  food journal every day, it became my good friend, encourager, and supporter. I shared my thoughts, feelings, opinions, intentions, plans, and goals. It assisted me to transform my way of thinking; I was able to bring to the surface unsolved issues, hidden opportunities, creative insights, and much more. My opinion of myself began to improve as well. While I had been experimenting with food, lifestyle, thoughts, and feeling, I could see freely what road in life to take; one which leads to the positive mindset for health and happiness. I’m still learning how to create positive surroundings, it is a wonderful process of self-enrichment. By allowing myself to be surrounded by an enjoyable atmosphere, a spark of motivation for a healthy way of living began to form. A strong motivation helps keep up enthusiasm, creative energy and the spirit of vitality.

I  appreciated that I have been able to take steps toward radiant health. Keeping the food journal has been a lovely experience, it turned out to be all about my personal journey. Now it is time for the next step. The food journal will continue, but I also want to start a gratitude journal. I will keep you posted. Health is more than eating well; food, good emotion, and energy go together hand in hand for radiant health.
